0:00Which uncertainty should become smaller?

This accompanies our article on building an MVP. Which important assumption should the first trial examine?

0:08Compare quotations without a spreadsheet

A fictional quotation comparison helps buyers identify which quotation needs clarification, without creating a spreadsheet. We want to test whether they can do this independently.

0:20Choose a small complete trial

Limit the trial to one product category and one follow-up decision. Requesting quotations, ordering and payment remain outside scope. A manually prepared comparison may sufficiently test this question.

0:33Disclose the preparation

Tell participants which preparation is manual. That does not test automated document recognition or integrations. Agree beforehand which observations would justify adjustment, further investigation or stopping.

0:48Include meaningful differences

Use permitted quotation data with different units, additional charges and a missing delivery date. The comparison must expose missing information without silently filling gaps with assumptions or invented values.

1:02Observe without giving the answer

Ask an intended user to choose a next step independently. Record information used, explanations needed and where the task stops. Distinguish assistance from the facilitator from independent completion.

1:16Separate functionality from learning

Does the version work technically? Does the observation support the assumption? Those are separate questions. A successful task or positive conversation alone establishes neither continued use nor willingness to pay.

1:30Connect observations to a decision

Keep original observations alongside interpretation, including disappointing results. Then choose an adjustment, another trial or stopping. Additional features should follow from what still needs investigation rather than from enthusiasm alone.

1:46Make limited development meaningful

An MVP helps when its trial informs a decision. Our source article on building an MVP explains learning goals, trial formats and the difference between delivery and evidence.
